Deborah has left for Dallas, but she still has a long way to go

Deborah has won her first battle, but she still has a long and difficult way to go to achieve final success. Thanks to the help of so many people, the woman from Leggiuno, who is affected by a rare disease, multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS), has been able to leave for the clinic in Dallas that is specialised in the treatment of this syndrome.

The news was given by Deborah’s son Matteo, 19, who thanked everyone and explained the next phases. “Thanks to the contributions of so many people, we’ve been able to tackle ‘phase 1’ of mum’s treatment. It’s been possible to make the expensive flight (with the right flight and equipment conditions, in particular) which has brought her to the Environmental Health Centre, in Dallas (Texas), where she will undergo an operation and specific treatments. So, now, ‘phase 2’ is beginning for me and my family. This will entail continuing to collect the funds to pay for the whole treatment period, the medicines and everything prescribed. We have to continue in order to guarantee the financial coverage of the treatments, because otherwise we’ll be forced to bring her home in whatever state she’s in. The American laws are very strict on this matter, given that the health system there is private.”

We’re asking you all not to abandon us, but to continue supporting us with the numerous little donations that have made this important phase possible, and to organise yourselves with me (my email is below) by finding out about the initiatives. We’re asking you for support and we would genuinely not like this sad story to be exploited,” Matteo continued. “While my mother, Deborah, is fighting her battle in Dallas, we, here, have to continue to live, to go to school, do exams at the end of the year, and do everything to live as normal a family life as possible. I’d also like to remind everyone that we can’t say, at the moment, exactly when she’ll be coming home, it depends on a lot of medical variables, and on the financial coverage. I will always remember 2015 as the year in which I had to grow up, when I met so many wonderful people; it will be a special year for us, but please, support us still, and organise yourselves with me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart; thank you for every smile, for every coffee that you didn’t drink, thank you for the initiatives, the tweets, the ideas; thanks. Together we’ll bring mum home and she’ll give everyone a big hug.”
