Hundreds of people strike at Mascioni: “We want to save ourselves”

Garrison outside the company against the industrial plan which foresees the cut of half of the staff, about 150/160 employees.

Presidio alla Mascioni

More than 200 employees by Mascioni were in front of the gates of the historical company in Cuvio, on Monday 26th October starting from 1 o’clock.

The aim was to put pressure on the new owner, the Spanish group Phi Asset Management Partners, in order to reorganize the industrial plan which is about heavy reductions of the staff (more than 150 out of 320 employees) and of investments.

At around 2 o’clock together with the workers there was also about twenty mayors and local  managers of the valley, from Laveno to Luino, in addition to the president of the Comunità Montana and the deputy president of the province: all promising support for the struggles of the workers.

At the gates there was also the provincial secretary of Cgil (an Italian union), Umberto Colombo.

A delegation of mayors met Andrea Fileccia, who is responsible for the factory. Also the Honourable Angelo Senaldi took part at the meeting.

The wait for the future of an historical company, which is decisive for the economy of the Alto Varesotto, is still high.

The industrial plan is about a series of actions to make up a debt of 20 million euros: once it has been formalized it will be passed into the hands of the bankruptcy court the following 8th November.

The delegation, which was made up also by the Honourable Angelo Senaldi, went out from the factory after an about 20-minute-long meeting with the top management of the company.

At once a piece of news made an opening in the clouds that stand out the horizon: “There are the assumptions to get something,” said Ermanno Donghi of the provincial secretary of Filctem Cgil.

“The director of the factory presented an industrial plan also to the mayors of the area, which confirms the situation and expresses the need of a reorganization. We suggest a common course, trying to reduce the social impact that this plan can have. We’ll find a way to lengthen the times and to put on the field all the possible actions to limit damage,” said the union officer.

On one side these actions are in a proposal, which had already been presented by the Cgil one year ago in order to save about a million euro by the rationalization of machinery and company times.

As regards the protections it was thought about the highest opening also through the cooperation with the local institutions, for a replacement or for the measures, which limit damage of a cut that would hardly result sustainable for the local economy.

In the company there is only a handful of white-collar workers and only a lorry coming from Turkey full of raw cotton knocked at the gates around 2 o’clock, another went out about at 3 o’clock.

Now all are waiting for the meeting on the 28th October in Varese, where both sides will try to find an agreement for the future of Mascioni.
